The app and curriculum are a pivot from the event planning website. When users reacted to their environmental savings from our customized infographics, we knew we could do so much more. To see where it all started, click here.

Illustration of a young girl holding the planet.

Eco-anxiety is real and growing. A huge motivation in creating the app and lessons was to deal with my own eco-anxiety. I wanted to know more, do more, and somehow give back. I come from a family of entrepreneurs. Both of my Grandfathers survived Prisoner of War camps in World War II. Giving up is not an option in my family. But let's be honest: the more you learn about the climate crisis and the challenges ahead, giving up can seem an easy option. It's overwhelming and sometimes downright depressing.

But it's hard to make a difference when we don't know the facts. Knowledge precedes action. That's the goal for Siitch. Quick facts. Quick context. With ideas and options to do better. So how do we rapidly expand environmental learning across the planet? To me, it's through our phones. It's through our class rooms. It's with personal, interactive tools that help us make a difference every day. We're not there yet, not by a long shot, but that's the goal.

If you are feeling down about climate issues, there are lots of resources to help. Here's a good place to start. In short: acknowledge it, find your tribe, channel your energy, and DO something. It doesn't have to be big. Start small — micro-actions have a huge impact. The best ideas are yet to come.

The app has been developed with the help of twenty multinational Masters Computer Science Engineers and Design Graduates from USC, SCAD and UC Santa Cruz. Most are now working at Google, Meta, Nvidia, Amazon and Salesforce. The students hail from USA, China, Taiwan, Lebanon, South Korea and India. Building tools to protect the planet truly takes a village. We are eternally grateful for their continued dedication.
